Slea Head Drive: Best Spots for an Unforgettable Trip

We love Dingle and Slea Head Drive. After spending a week in the area, we compiled the list below of the must-see places along Slea Head Drive. If you find you have more time in the area, see this post for more ideas on what to do in Dingle.

A. VENTRY BAY BEACH

Ventry Beach

Take a quick stop to walk along Ventry Beach. On a nice day, this water is bright blue and quite the sight. If you have the extra time, book a horseback riding tour with Long’s Riding Centre and experience the beach on horseback!

B. VIEWPOINT OVERLOOKING COUMEENOOLE BEACH

Slea Head Drive

After passing the Cross at Slea Head, there will be a few spots where you can pull over and park. I’d recommend taking a moment to stop and take in the views here.

C. DUNMORE HEAD / COUMEENOOLE BEACH

Dunmore Head2

Coumeenoole Beach is another great beach on Slea Head Drive. From the same parking spot, you can hike to Dunmore Head for panoramic views. The hike is a 2.3km/1.6-mile loop and relatively easy.

D. DUNQUIN PIER

Dunquin Pier

Shortly after Dunmore Head, there is a pull-off for Dunquin Pier. You can walk down the pier to get closer to the views or take it all in from the higher elevation. Just a friendly reminder not to drive down the pier as it is only meant for walking

E. THE BLASKET CENTER

The Blasket Centre is a good place to stop for many reasons. If you are into history, you can visit the museum to learn more about the Blasket Islands, which were inhabited until the mid-20th century. If you are in need of some food, they have a café with a variety of sandwiches, pastries, and drinks. If you are a sucker for good views and walking, there is a walking path to more cliffs overlooking the water.

F. CLOGHER HEAD

Clogher Head

This area consists of another short walk from the car to a worthwhile viewpoint. Clogher Head offers stunning panoramic views of the coastline and is a perfect spot for photographers to capture the rugged beauty of the area.

G. TIG ÁINE

If you find yourself in need of some food, Tig Áine is a great lunch spot. We enjoyed it so much, we came back a second day.

H. CLOGHER STRAND

Clogher Strand

Clogher Strand is yet another beautiful beach on Slea Head Drive, known for its golden sands and clear waters. If you visit on a sunny day, you are really in for a treat, with opportunities for swimming, sunbathing, and enjoying the scenic coastal views. The beach is also a popular spot for birdwatching, with a variety of seabirds frequenting the area.

I. DOWNTOWN DINGLE

Downtown Dingle

Finish your journey exploring downtown Dingle. There are many shops, cafes, and restaurants to explore.
